The duty of Human Resource management professional involves giving support to fellow employees. Specific counselling skills are required for Human Resource management professionals for sorting out the issues among the employees and clients.

Majority of time a Human Resource Manager spend in an organization will be on dealing with people from various department inside an organization. For effective counseling communication skills organizational skills and problem solving skills are required by the HR Professional. There are several theories related to the counseling of people and this generally involve giving opportunity talking and developing an attitude that may not affect the life of the employee.

Interviewing is the critical part that an HR professional has to perform with a beginning middle and end in mind. An HR professional will be asking open-ended questions for getting a summary from the person being interviewed. This will help in sorting out the positive things that can have an influence on the person undergoing counselling.

The effectiveness of the counselling depends on the listening ability of the HR professional. It also depends upon the ability to give proper guidance for each problems affecting the person being counselled. By proper listening, the tone of voice and intentions can be found out from the person being affected by problems.
